How do I hang paintings on painted plaster walls?

In the past, driving nails into my plaster walls has marred the paint and chipped the plaster. What's the right way to hang paintings on painted plaster walls?

Would the pictures be too heavy for command hangers?

If the walls are truly PLASTER and not dry wall.... consider installing a picture rail.... it is a wood molding mounted high on the wall from which you hang the pictures via wires, chains or monifiliment line... there are special clips made to hook onto the picture rail for this.... it is the way pictures were hung in order to not put holes in the expensive plaster.

The average hand sewing needle can hold 10 lbs of weight. We use them as they are much less intrusive in the walls and most our framed pictures weigh much less than 10 lbs.

Hi Gayla, you can purchase Command Hooks at nearly any store now. They come in various sizes and strengths to hold different weight items and art. Look in that section of the store as 3M makes various solutions to hanging or affixing art to walls. I know what you mean about the plaster walls....the plaster ends up breaking.
