relocate it!
You could try something like this, or relocate it, and I am not sure if you have thought about the tankless hot water heaters https://www.amazon.ca/Rheem-RTGH-95DVLN-Indoor-Tankless-Natural/dp/B0084CPDFS?th=1&psc=1&source=googleshopping&locale=en-CA&tag=googcana-20&ref=pd_sl_1wfbqs20z0_e
They do sell a wood material than bends to go around a round post. Check with the Millwork department at a local Home Depot or Lowes. But be foremost careful where the flame is at the bottom. I would line that wood area with metal to make it fireproof and don’t use any glues or terpintine or anything flamable even in the same ROOM as that flame. I know someone who had a terrible accident when the FUMES lit from his pilot light in the tank. So attach with screws or wire to be safe. But the material I mentioned will taper around the tank and then a piece of metal from the hardware dept for between the two. I’m sure you will have to make cutouts for the handles also. Let us see what the finished product looks like!
