How do I make new store bought picture frames look old and vintage?

I have picture frames that I would like to look old and vintage. How can change them with paint or something else??

  • What kind of look are you going for? vintage can mean a various amount of patinas. I have spray painted black and then taken a gold or silver and lightly sprayed over that finish. Then I have painted them and taken a glaze (you can find small bottles in the paint craft section) and rub that on. Stain works too. Experiment on scrap pieces. There are lots of ways but these I find easy since I have these paint supplies on hand. good luck

painting them a light color [white, tan] and then painting black over that. lightly sand some of the black off the edges. gives an almost rustic look. would work for wooden frames.

You can paint them an antique white (are they wood or metal?) Then use crackling medium to give it an aged look. If they are metal you would have to primer them first. I would recommend wood over metal - easier to work with.
