How do I seal a mod podged table so that it is waterproof?

I used modpodge and magazines to cover a cheap black coffee table, but it needs to be waterproof to stand up to drinks, spills, etc. What should I use and how?

A couple of coats of polyurethane should make it water proof.

Non yellowing polycrylic will do the trick

Hello, this is a bit late as you have already glued your mags but for future reference, you can buy Outdoor MP which stands up to the elements so maybe it would be suitable for a few coffee spills? If you are using a non yellowing poly sealer, Rustoleum do a good spray which is easy to use and gives a good finish. Good luck with your table.

There is also new dishwasher safe modpodge. That should work as well.

Scotchgard fabric water protector, might work. test first to make sure doesn't react with water based Modgepodge.

Such excellent answers! Mod Podge has quite a repertoire of products now, I agree that either outdoor or dishwasher safe Mod Podge would definitely work.

OMG! Thank you guys so much. Such good ideas! I plan to do many more, so I will try them all and report back how well each works for what kind of use. Thank you again. This has been quite a worry for me, and now that I have some options, I feel "unstuck". Woot!

minwax makes a waterproof polyurethane called helmsman that comes as a spray or brush on in a can. this would probably be a safe bet with lots of protection
