Yikes! That is a lot of working hours, no time for gardening. Have you considered just a "mow and blow" garden service which would keep things somewhat maintained? Another thing to consider would be xeriscaping which would be really low maintenance. Here are a couple sites for you to peruse. Keep us posted!

If your cabinets are low enough, you could just tape them under the cabinets, but if it will show, you might want to cover them with a sheer fabric or something transparent enough to let the light through, but hide the wires.

I would fix them to the backside of the front bottom lip, or even the top lip. You may need an extension cord, too.

You could affix them with 3-M hooks - they come in all shapes and sizes. That way they won't be permanent.
