I would wrap it the entire way around and secure edges underneath. Otherwise u will need an adhesive to secure the edges.
Elmers glue
I have found that I need to be careful not to stretch it. When I have pulled on it just a little to wrap a corner I have had it pop up. So, my fix would be not to stretch it.
Try placing a bit of glue under the paper and let it dry with a heavy item placed over it.
