Another option is to buy a flat, wooden picture frame with glass to use as the front "door" of the display, then build a square cabinet behind it to house the doll. Just make sure to buy a picture frame that is large enough to display each doll properly. This way, you can make different size cabinets depending on what size frame you use.

I bought a fish tank and turned it upside down, my dolls fit in it and keeps them beautiful.
You can make that cabinet any size you like, then go to the framing shop and have them make you a frame with glass to attach to the front.
You could try gluing inexpensive picture frames together to make a display box
