Tape off the mirror to keep paint off of it. You can use a flat razor after painting to scrape any paint that gets on the mirror accidentally. Clean the frame with a grease cutting cleaner like Dawn & water. Spray or brush primer that is meant to adhere to acrylic. Then use paint of your choice. If the mirror has interesting details, you can rub dark or white wax into it and then buff off to bring out the details.
Hi Carol! Depending on the finish you want you can use a spray paint. Many of them come with primer built in and are made to cover surfaces other than wood. They come in colors, in metal tones and in chalk paint which will give you a rustic appearance. Hope that helps!

If you’re looking for a new look try chalk paint. I chalk painted an old wood sign I made.
