I would use a variety of spruce tops and evergreen , dried hydrangea and red dogwood in the winter. Fall branches and pumpkins for autumn. Spring ...pussy willow , forsythia and dried grapevine. Summer...dried grapevine, vintage garden tools or bird houses and draping live vining plants like ivy, potato vine or licorice . In my opinion nothing looks more unnatural than bunches of fake flowers. Try and use natural elements .

Gosh, so many options depending on what you want to do! 1. You could put sand in your window boxes and top them with sand pails, beach toys and seashells, maybe some pinwheels, for a summer display. 2. You could put dirt in them and add little houses, fake mushrooms, and moss to create a fairy garden. There's lot of examples of fairy gardens here on Hometalk. 3. Add a flat surface just under the lip of your boxes and arrange small buildings to create a village scene in each box, with or without a toy train. 4. Look around at what you have or like to collect and see if there's a way to use this items to make a display in your window boxes.

Try to keep in mind the view from inside as well as outside. Window boxes are perfect for creating vignettes using a mixture of natural elements and items that will hold up outside. I would change them seasonally and if you look online at window boxes you will see many ideas. I love pumpkins with grapevine etc in the fall and lights with pine and large Christmas ornaments for winter. Spring could be colorful eggs and nests among branches and summer using American flags and ribbon with twigs etc. Good luck!
