Hi Sheryl, besides a shelf with a lip on it I know they also sell specific dish holders for walls. I would check Amazon!
In this link they used plate hangers:

Some people use Command Strips to do this, personally, I have not had much luck with these. The Command strips were stuck on the plate and the wall. The strips had a better to the bond to the paint on the wall than the paint to the wall, and it crashed.
If you choose Command strips, be sure to use to correct strength to the weight of the plates. Best to you.
Plate Hangers. You can get them on Amazon, at Michael's, and Walmart.
Hi Sheryl, here's a link I found that may offer one way to help.

Purchase plate hangers. Use small nails in the drywall if they plates are not heavy and hand the plate hanger on them. They are just springs in the back with two prongs to hold the plate on top and bottom.
You can use plate hangers. They attach onto the plate and then you hang onto the wall in the middle of the plate on the back. You can get them on Amazon.
Also, here's an article using adhesive discs:

I have a picture ledge. This allows me to change out not only pictures but anything else I want to display and being a ledge I can move stuff around without making holes in the wall.
Go to the dollar store and get Plate hangers. They work fantastic for hanging dishes even plaques
Hanging plates on individual plate hangers will result in many holes all over the wall. If you want to change your display, as different sized plates will require different sized holders, you will have to make more holes to hang them up, and then fill and repair the drywall where the previous holes are.
I would strongly suggest that you purchase a floating shelf with a picture ledge. The ledge will hold the plates back, preventing them from sliding forward, and the hidden hardware will draw the eye towards the plates on display, rather than how the shelf is mounted.
This type of shelf allows for max flexibility to accommodate plates of different sizes, and switching individual pieces during seasonal displays.
There are dish holders
Go to your True Value, they have several sizes of wire hangers for hanging plates.... I even found some 18" -20" ones for my cobalt and imari plates.
Hello. I use the traditional metal plate hangers in my situation but you may want to consider the new adhesive ones they look like a very attractive option.
