Hi Cat, I have taught myself to create necklaces using YouTube. My favorite "teacher" is Gina's Gems Creations. There are a lot more to choose from. You can purchase beads at Michael's or JoAnn Fabrics. You can make a very simple necklace or a very difficult necklace. They also teach how to make bracelets and earrings. Hope this helps.

A fun summer project for the kids is to buy a jar of a variety of beads Baubles and buttons from the craft store or if you're lucky from the thrift store. Using embroidery floss have the kids bead the bottles for the length of their necklace and tie a knot.

Very important to know the type you are interested in, wether it is for a male or female, is it for a very feminine young lady or a gal who is a little more outdoorsy. these types of things would be very helpful to know In order to best answer your question.

I start with a pendant for color schemes of beads. I have mixed shell beads and glass beads, and also took glass flower beads that were all one color (light orange) and added a metal (nail art decoration) piece to each flower, on both sides to give the bead a different, center color.

For my granddaughter, I buy plastic beads at thrift stores (and wash them), or occasionally from a craft store (with coupons by mail/text/website. I use plastic containers to hold the beads. I organize by color or type (that's what I do with my beads, trying to teach 5yr old to be organized).
