I made a hummingbird feeder last year out of an old tequila bottle. You could easily substitute a different type of bottle with a cork. The bottle I used had a wooden stopper, so I drilled a hole the same diameter as some clear tubing purchased in the plumbing department and inserted the tubing in the hole. Then I wrapped the bottle with twine (wire would probably be better) in order to hang it. The first time I used it (after the picture was taken - I made my feeder during the winter), I was disappointed because all the liquid drained out in just a day. Then after examining a store-bought feeder, I modified mine by bending the tube upward and tying it to the neck of the bottle, making it U-shaped. The liquid stopped flowing once it reached the lowest point of the tube, and hummingbirds were still able to reach in and drink using their long beaks.
