Make small rooms appear larger by the walls and furniture. Paint the walls a light color and avoid using a chair round. Light gives the appearance of a larger room, especially the ceiling should be white. Then scale down your furniture. Instead of an over stuffed chair or recliner, use a wooden glider/rocker. Keep the furniture amount to a minimum and the walls decorated very lightly, i.e. don't over stuff books on the books shelf if you have one. Make use of light and your windows too. Another trick is to put up a mirror or mirror tiles on one wall to give the appearance of a larger room.
I also like to use furniture that one can see thru... like glass, hairpin legs, etc
Light colored paint, good lighting and organization - keep the room as clutter free as possible.
Built in wooden unit on one wall floor to ceiling
Contrary to what you may think, you should use larger furniture in a small room to make it look larger, just use fewer pieces, strategically placed. Also, use lighter wall colors on 3 walls and a darker color on the 4th wall, which tricks the eye into thinking that the room is longer than it actually is since your eye is drawn toward the darker wall, giving the illusion of length.
It often helps make a room larger if you paint the walls and trim the same color so the room is "broken" up with doors & trim. Declutter and keep the accessories to a minimum rather than cluttering with small deco items. Lots of light will also help!
Less furniture and decor...and 1 accent color wall ... light ecru/off white on other walls
Light colors on walls and curtains, large mirrors to reflect light from windows, smaller sized furniture and not too many accessories will elp make your room "feel" larger.
