How to make these for coaster use?
These are swatches from furniture. I want to use them as coasters. My thought was just to add some type of Fringe or Pom Pom all around for a fun look. Do I need to somehow waterproof fabric or just leave as is. They will probably only be used for a hot beverage, not some sweaty beer can.. lol

You can spray with Never Wet by RustOleum or Camp Dri by Kiwi.
Scotch Gard will form a protective barrier. If you sew, you could sew them together with a fringe of trim of your choice.
It's your call as to whether a water proofing is needed. For a different look than glued-on or ewn-on trim, you could stitch around your coaster square about 1/2" from the edge; then fray the edge to that stitched line by pulling threads .
here are some ideas for you

One of these should work for you. Here is a somewhat different idea for adding fringe to coasters.

I would spray them with Scotchguard.
If you don't know how to sew you can lay them back to back and glue them together.
Stick to thin MDF or hardboard or Plywood with Mod Podge.
Maybe add felt to the back
Just hot glue some felt on the bottom and your done unless you want to do so,e fringe
Hello 516maria, you can add your fringe then do a scotch guard treatment on them, or
you can put a coating of matte mod podge on them to help protect the surfaces you are using them on. Hope this helps you out.
you could always laminate them and use them as coasters
I would cut them out into circles and glue them to cork coasters.
These swatches seem to be lifting up already at the corners. They will be more effective in protecting the table surfaces from the heat of the cups if they were thicker. I would suggest using spray adhesive to attach them to pieces of felt. This will make the squares thicker and more insulating.
Thank you .All good suggestions. When I complete the project I will post . How do I go about finding my post from the past..to do this?
Well folks….this is how they turned out. Thanks for all your suggestions. I just found some trim I had leftover from other projects and sewed it on.
This video will show you how to make your coasters. You can spray them with Scotchguard for extra protection.

You could adhere the fabric to pieces of wood that have been sealed which will give them a longer life. You could use a product like Never Wet or there are several outdoor fabric sprays that would waterproof the fabric.
