I need an idea on how to panit an ole pitckfork

Once,you have given it a good cleaning spray paint with a paint meant for metals,should hold up outside.Handle should also be spraypainted for exterior paint of the same metallic paint if nota varnish applied to protect the wood.

If this was mine; I would use a mineral oil to clean the metal and then wax the metal areas. I'd wax the wood parts. Its a more natural look than a flat or shiny black painted look..
