Take a colorful bandana and glue it lightly to the shade and it might give you a pretty design but at the same time give you light still.

I found some really neat tissue paper at a craft store. Looked like old newspaper print and used school glue or Modge Podge to apple. If you cut in pieces it is easy to apply and mine has a bit of a sheen so it is easy to dust. My Daughter just covered hers with scrapbook paper with a bird design. Very cool!
