Hi Eva, this is Peggy. I think the bed is beautiful the way it is, but you could paint it or highlight the beautiful detail. Can I paint my bed frame?

You can paint or repaint a wooden bed with any color you wish. ... Keep in mind that the inside surfaces of the bed frame will be out of sight once covered with a box spring and mattress. You might wish to apply only one coat of paint to the parts of the bed that won't show.Dec 14, 2018

Hi ! I would normally say paint it white , pink or lavender and add sparkles , but this headboard looks like a nice antique ! So I can understand that you might not want to paint it ! To make it a princess bed I would add a netting or sheer material to the ceiling above her bed , I believe they sell something like this , look on Amazon or Ikea , to get an idea , if you want to make your own ! Add mini LED battery operated or timer lights . I would use lights that don't generate heat , for safety reasons. You could also paint the wall that the bed is against as a focal point and paint trees , flowers , butterflies , birds , fairys ...paint clouds and the blue sky on the ceiling . What a wonderful gift to give a child , a room full of creative expression !!!! I know , because I had one as a child , my whole room and the ceiling was painted by my artist mother and her artist friend , I told them what I wanted and they painted it ! I remember it clearly and fondly , and I am now in my 60's !!!!

Right there with you, 66!! Thanks so much for your suggestions. I really do not want to paint the bed. So decorating all around is the perfect way to go. Thanks ❤️

One very pretty headboard that already looks like a princess bed! I would have a hard time painting that! I would decorate around it rather than paint it! You could make a bedskirt from tulle, make some matching valances with the tulle, use glitter light switches, create a canopy with lights over the bed...the ideas are endless. Don't paint that headboard it is beautiful Dress up the bed with beads and bows and a nice pink dust ruffle. I tried to attach a picture but it would not work. Wayfair has some really pretty in pink accessories.

Painting wooden furniture involves a great deal of preparation, time, and patience. I agree with others who have said do not paint the headboard. Keep in mind that children as they pass from year to year often change what they are interested in or what they are excited about. There is a possibility that your granddaughter will grow out of the princess stage sooner than later.

The shape and outlines of the headboard are pretty enough that with some delicate or sparkly embellishments can be transformed into a 'princess bed'. I would suggest that you consider materials that are non-permanent and easy to remove, such as peel and stick sparkles, ribbons, and a themed sheet set.

Painting the headboard would be a plus. But since you don't want to you can drape some lace fabric or tulle on it and fasten it around the posts draping down to the floor. Use the same fabric to create a canopy. Here are a bunch of ideas you can pick and save.

Paint white with gold accents. Add a princess crown in the center of the headboard. You can also add a sheer material hanging from the ceiling for a canopy.
