How would you use this piece?
I bought the 11x11 inches square tile(?) at a Goodwill recently. The price was $1.99 minus my discount. So, I paid $1.78 for it. It appears to be tile but is smooth on front and back. Any suggestions as to how I should use it or possibly it was in its first life? Thanks.

Looks like somebody made a checkers or chess board. Cutting board, hot plate for pans. Would look nice on an end table with a table lamp
Could be a center piece on a table...
It could be a tiny chess or checker board. or I'd use it as a coaster. Or as a shelf in a macrame project like here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/155303887297447674/
It was a marble chess board. I recently donated one to a women's charity along with the chess pieces. So I have no suggestions on an upcycle but at least I can give you some background information.
Cheese and cracker board
I personally think this would be great as a table center piece or you can also try framing this and display on a wall.
Put feet on it and use as a display piece or a tray.
I think someone intended for it to be a chess board but the colors are beautiful so use it as a place to place hot pans on your island or counter top- use as a center piece on a dining table to sit flowers or other things on - you could frame it and hang it on the wall too
There are even more things you could do with this if you cut it.

You could add wood to both ends and make a beautiful tray, either with or without handles.
it looks more like marble
Other than a game board, I would use it in the kitchen as a hot plate.
Since its probably marble and can stay outside you could use it as a background for a house number against a wall. Or take out some of the centre tiles and use it around a wall mounted fountain spout. Or break it up and use the tiles as a row of tiles above a mirror. Or use it as the backsplash to a mounted soap dish.
Looks like it was a chess or checker board in its previous life. You could use it as a trivet or the basis for some interesting wall or table decor.
Set it into acoffee table. Use it as a games (Chess- Draughts) Board with a wooden underbaord and edge frame.
Looks like a chess board.
That's a great looking chess board, what a great find. It would be a great piece to add to a coffee table or even leaned up on a bookshelf.

I have a similar piece! I plan to inlay it in a piece of natural wood and use as a chess board.
Absolutely was originally a very nice checkerboard and likely came with the checker pieces. I'd use it as a base for a centerpiece on a table. You scored on the fantastic price! :)
You can use it as decor in your kitchen, I have similar and my coffee maker is on it. You might also use it under a plant or as a surface to put a hot pot.
