Crafts using mason jars for lighthouses

I belong to a non-profit that supports Shriners Hospitals and we want to create a symbol
using the lighthouse. I saw the Mason Jar Luminaries and was wondering how they would be on tables to show shining the light.

if this is for a dinner type affair, I would play with maybe all or part of a toilet paper roll center as the top of a lighthouse and partially fill the mason jars with colored sand a few shells and metallic water colored shredded paper. I would suggest using battery tiny lights peeking through hole(s) at the top. the roll column would cover the battery sitting on the lid. column could be colored or covered with a colored or plain white paper. FYI : Shriners Hospital patients could color the rolls maybe. Whatever you group does will be great ! My now 37yr. old son was a patient in Shreveport LA. for 2 club feet

not sure what you mean as a symbol, i made a lighthouse for my garden using pots ,painted, and a garden light pushed in to the top pot, worked with the sun and looked great at night, got it on Pinterest

I think that's a Wonderful idea! I love painting on glass with paints that you bake on in the oven. It's easy and a lot of fun. After painting your lighthouses on the jars and baking them you can use battery led lights on the inside. I might steal your idea! :-)

Michael's craft stores sell Solar lights that sit on top of a canning jar, you could get these and glass paint the jars with a light house shape put the solar light on top after charged up either by sunshine or a lamp in the house. Once charged they stay lit for 8 hours. For example the Lighthouse in NC is Black on the bottom, Gray in the middle and white on top. I would paint all the way around the jar in these colors with glass paint. Really cool to do and use as table top decorations.
