Parchment paper is a good paper that lasts longer than most. You can buy it at Walmart. Cutting each in half gives you double as each piece is 8 1/2 X 11. I think you can order cardboard treasure chests online and spray paint white. I'd go one step further and line the inside with a pretty fabric. Hope this helps.

I have not done this, but I would think go to Craft store and purchase scrapbook paper (acid free). Then cut into note size since they won't need a whole sheet. Acid free paper is what you need. Sounds like a nice thing to do. And if U don't find the treasure chest you mentioned, grab a pretty box in the craft store as well. They have many designs from floral, to solid color photo boxes which would serve as a storage box for the notes as well. All the best !

How about using a thrift store jewelry box for the treasure chest?

Thank You Judi B. That's an idea! The husband of the deceased specially said a treasure chest, but if we absolutely can't find the right one, that's a great option! Thanks

You could also glue old brooches, pearls, pieces of necklaces to your chest. Michaels and Joanne's carries nice little chests that you can paint it the exact color you want and the folks are right about acid free paper as it will not disintegrate over time. Maybe a nice added touch would be a calligraphy pen for the over all look?

Hobby Lobby has a lot of chests that you can paint white and decorate.

Think of ways you can add to the jewelry box - like gluing "jewels" to the lid and putting a small hasp lock for closure. You might even glue thin wood strips to the box with brad "nails." This could be a really fun project.

Not much "fun" since it's for a memorial.
