Any ideas for inexpensive wall decor in a small apartment?

My landlord is accommodating to the idea of painting (as long as I don't paint the walls black) Should I make an accent wall or just paint them all the same color? I have great natural light.

An accent wall would be great just don't go overboard. Dark colors are hard to cover if you change your mind. Or you could Wallpaper one wall.

Definitely do an accent wall! It should be the wall that you first see when you walk into the room. You can then pull that color into your accessories to tie the room together. Good Luck!

  • Visit Pinterest or collect pictures from home magazines of rooms you love, then consider what is the common theme in all your favorites. There are many painting posts on this site to help you with the how-to.

Good luck 😉 and post your results!!

I love an accent wall. it should absolutely be the wall you first see as you enter the room. Since you don't own the home, pick something you like but that can be easily covered. (Reds, black and other dark colors are very difficult to cover). Kilz is amazing to cover paint and stains, should you need to do so when you leave. Then, like C2it said, accent the room with decor that matches the accent wall. HD has a great app called Project Color that you can use to see what the color will look like on your wall. You simply take a picture of the wall and pick a color you like and voila, it puts it on the wall. It can be fickle if you have furniture in the way, but will still give you a good general idea. Its nice your landlord is being so accommodating. Have fun with it and good luck!!

You can also get a large tapestry in linen or cotton, with or without a design and used as the accent. This would not be permanent and give the chance to find what colors suit your home best without the headache of painting over and over again. Good luck!

Okay, so I'm going to be "odd man out" here. If the apartment is small, I would skip the accent wall, as it may not be a proportionate focal point. Instead, paint your walls a lovely (light) neutral color - something in the off white or greige family. To accentuate a wall, plan a variety of frames and wall art to express what you love. This way, what is really stand out is not a single color, but your personality. Good luck!
