Gently pressure, don't press hard, let the dremel do the work. If you have to start with smaller and go to bigger until you have the hole size you need.
Dremel will work great for your holes. There are all sorts of tip attachments you can get to make the size you want or need. Just be sure to put padding under your shells to keep from breaking, and use steady, even pressure with the Dremel. Be sure to drill straight down, not at an angle, if possible.
