The accent wall should be the one you see first, or the one you want to call attention to. Especially one that you have interesting art work on.

Do you have a particular feature in the room that you want to highlight, like an interesting window or view, a fireplace, or something with architectural interest (even if it's just an uninterrupted blank space for hanging pictures)? If so, that's probably the wall to choose.

  • What coordinates with adjoining room and / or what compliments your current furniture. Here is a color wheel to help you out. Purchase sample sizes and place on wall, then choose your favorite.

    I'd say the largest wall.

    The one behind your couch.

No matter where I go, I always do an accent wall (my favorite color is emerald green). The rest of the walls should be a neutral color or swiss coffee (almost white). Choose the focal wall so that it creates a good impression when guests walk in. Make sure your furniture and accessories (pillows etc) coordinate with your accent wall.
