a large book works wonderfully! no need to do anything fancy or expensive.
simply put the flowers or leaves in between the pages, leaving at least1/4 inch thickness of pages between flowers. stack something heavy on the book..more books, bricks etc. and your flowers should be ready in 4-6 weeks.

You can take two pieces of flat wood (plywood would work) and cut them into a square or rectangle shape. Whatever size you want is fine. The bigger it is, the more it will hold.. Drill a hole in all four corners of each piece of wood. Make sure the holes line up when you stack the two pieces of wood on top of each other. Now, take four screws that are long enough to go through both pieces of wood,,,and stick out on the other side about 1/2 inch. Add wingnuts to the ends of the screws. Now you can put flowers between the boards, and smash them down using the screws to hold the boards in place while the flowers dry. Hope that makes sense.

Flower pressing go back almost to the publication of Gutenberg's Bible. Okay, not that far back, but as soon as books became commonly owned, flowers went in. Monks began pressing flowers in printed books to embellish the plain pages. Every family who could afford one had a Bible, a book of prayers, and eventually a dictionary. Men were the first flower collectors, once science became a study instead of magic. But soon women were collecting from a list of flowers of the month and flowers as specific sentimental symbols. And why will you press flowers? I'm going to guess you make some type of handicraft with them, possibly jewelry. You are in good and historical company. Best wishes 😇💐

If you're worried about the integrity of the book or the flower petals, press the flowers between sheets of wax paper before placing inside the book. Set something heavy on the book and forget about it for a week or so .
