If I have pot lights in my kitchen ceiling, can I put in a dimmer?

The lights in my kitchen ceiling, (pot lights), take forever to get bright enough to see, so, am thinking of installing a dimmer switch so that I can control the lighting better. Question is, will the lights still take just as long to get to their brightest point even after installing the dimmer?
Is there a way to test why the lights take so long to get bright?

Thanks

The time it takes for your lights to get brite is from the bulbs you are using. Buy bulbs that don’t need to warm up and you should fix your problem. I like the LED bulbs and haven’t noticed a warm up period with those.

I havent had to change mine yet and have had them a couple of years. They aren’t cheap so it would probably take a couple more years to even out.

Replacing your current light bulbs with LED bulbs should brighten up your kitchen and use less energy doing it.... just know that sometimes there is a second or so delay before they come on

The dimmer switch will not work to make your lights brighter if it is taking them time to warm up... all it does is regulate the amount of current they are getting.... lower current... lower light... if they are already getting the maximum amount of current and they are too dim... the dimmer switch will not help.... you might find that they are are the equivalent of 40 watt and you need to replace them with 60 watt....

The CFL bulbs we have do not seem as bright as the LED bulbs of the same wattage... so I have switched most of the CFLs to LEDs in the reading and room lights.... i am using the CFLs in those lamps that are used as mood lighting, and in the porch lights.

Check to see what kind of bulbs are in them. Fluorescents are slow to brighten. Change to LED.

They are CFL energy savers,.......will LED be better?

CFL do take longer to get bright. Especially as they age. I had the same problem. Switch to LED. They are more energy efficient that CFL and will last much longer.. And no warm up time.

My husband is a retired engineer and he researches everything! We've changed all but a few bulbs in our house to LED. He's also played around with color and we prefer soft white light. However, it's well known that soft pink lighting is wonderful for older women...but we still use soft white!
