Ive glued and grouted flattened marbles on decorative wooden windows so I would expect yes. The only consideration might be that the finished surface might be uneven with the unique irregular marble sizing. Might be harder to keep clean.
This lady did it, but there are. It looks like she used some kind of grout backing but didn't use it after the marbles were installed. Hope this little bit gives you inspiration..

You want to use tile adhesive (vertical surfaces) not thin set (horizontal surfaces) use a V-notch trowel and Work in a very small area at a time (it will take you a bit of time to set the gems).... let cure for a day... grout using NON-sanded grout (sanded grout will scratch the glass)... according to the instructions on bag.
My suggestion is to use backer board and not put directly on the sheet rock. If you ever want to change it out, the drywall will have to be replaced. I think it'll be a great look.
Use tile mastic to glue them on to the wall. Then use grout to fill in the spaces. No need for a backer board. It would just add thickness to the wall and look funky.
