Is it possible to wallpaper tongue and groove paneling on bookcase?

The back of a built in bookcase is paneled.id like to put wallpaper in there. It is a painted surface now.

    Sure. But unless it is very heavy wallpaper the grooves in the paneling will show through.

    Hi Laura, it is possible though it may not be smooth because tongue and groove has grooves lol Have you considered cutting pieces of cardboard to put in the back and wallpapering them? Then they would be interchangeable!

      Yes, I thought I was stating the obvious when I used the term “tongue and groove”

    You can also buy a backing which then you will not have the grooves. Bought at Home Depot and used on paneling.

    I would suggest using a filler in the grooves & then priming before wallpapering to assure permanence.

    Some wallpapers call for the application of sizing. This keeps the wallpaper from becoming unstuck. If you use the sizing over the paint you should have no problems.

    Wallpaper A PIECE OF BOARD THE SAME SIZE AND SCREW THAT ON TO THE FRAMEWORK. Hope that helps!
