The Container Store sells clips that grip the top and bottom of an individual brick and lets you hang pictures. I'm sure you could find these online as well. They come in different sizes, so make sure to measure the bricks before buying. We have just drilled into the mortar between bricks and put in screws to hold up pictures and even our TV! Since you are renting, you could ask permission from the landlord or just do it and remove the screw and fill the hole before moving out.
