Hi Teresa,
This wall is great! I would consider painting it white (or something close to the trim paint). The wall appears to be the same color as the other walls in your home and I think it would really make this space pop. I would then add a bright colored accent. Pick a color and stick with it, you could paint the picture frames and "island section" that color to tie the spay together. I added a pop of color to my kitchen and painted my windowsill and the inside of our cabinets Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore.
I have found that it is helpful to head over to Pinterest when trying to put together spaces. My home is very coastal so I would search "coastal diving room", but if your style is more Americana, or Farm house, you can put that in to the search bar. Pinterest will give you great visual ideas and help select a color pallet that compliments your design preference.
Hope this helps! Cheers! Lauren - The Little Lake Cottage
why not just do away with the wall & go open concept? attach the cabinets to the wall that looks like a hall on the left & make the counter a free standing isalnd instead of a pass thru.
This divider wall is fabulous. But you need to make it yours. It's very modern in style and the edges of your photo are much more homey. So look around the house for colors that will make it blend in as an accent instead of say "HERE I AM!!!" The gray should be a warmer color, the wood trim might be better if you matched it with the floor, fan or other furniture in the room. Even changing the hardware will alter the look. A lot. If you like that sort of thing - you could even change the color/texture of the glass in the doors. There are a number of films that are made for just that. Most of all... have fun and enjoy your creative side.
Thank you!!!!
I think the wall is fabulous! As it's got 3 sides/hallways it seems you can't remove it but you still have a lot of openness and that's great. I would carry the white trim completely from side-to-side, adding a full width piece at the bottom of the opening. I'd then paint the entire thing white, using satin or semi-gloss on the trim. Do something more with the corbels under the countertop to bring them out more (paint!)
You could add some lighting above that wall for "mood" lighting when you don't want the brightness of the can lights. It looks dark now.
I do not like the picture at the top of the opening at all! Nor do I like the one that's at the left on the edge of the wall. With all the decorative items in the cupboards, consider no art at all so the wall and the ceiling angles make statements on their own. Consider replacing the wall sconces with something more designer and less old fashioned. You could place a long, large sculptural item on top.
