Military medals in older picture frame
I have my fathers WWII medals and my military medals and would like to put them in picture frames....Only thing they may be to thick in between the glass and the back of the frame, ( regular picture frames) other then snapping the points off that hold the clasps on how would I attach them to the frames? One is gold color, any ideas on what color to paint the frames, I would use chalk paint..

I would use black frames so as not to take away from the beauty of the medals that would be simple but elegant looking

What you need is a shadow box which is deep enough for the medals or anything dimensional. You could make a simple shadowbox by putting one frame on top of another to get the depth you need. Or just make a shadowbox. Here are some ideas

Buy a shadow box. It would be a shame to modify the medals.
They make display cases for items like this. Look on Amazon.
Many beautiful ways to display your father's medals, take a look here fir inspiration:

You need a shadow box frame to do this. Here is a step by step guide to make one https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Shadow-Box-Frame
What a lovely idea. The shadow box frames are your solution.
They come in all sizes, even uniforms can be framed.
Put them in a shadow box
Shadow boxes would be the best option. You can buy them unfinished and paint them whatever way you wish. Either navy blue or black would likely look great so as not to detract from the medals.
You may want to get advice from a framing place like michaels. I know they charge an arm and a leg, but they may be able to give you ideas, or even a velvet backing that will hold the metals. I've seen this done so many times that there must be an easy way to do it. You may just need a deeper frame with a squishy velvet thin mat that will hold them all in place with a small pin.
If you made a shadow box you could make it as deep as you wanted.
