I had posted my dining room a while ago asking for suggestions and you all came through! In the end I decided to paint Polar Frost by Benjamin Moore with new white chair rail. I kind of wish I had gone a bit darker, but the room tends to be darker anyway, not getting much light because of the way the house is situated.
The carpet has lots of colors in it. Blue might have been a better choice, but I wanted to go with a green. Now my dilemma is what to do with the chairs - I had painted the wooden ones an Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue, but now they do not go. Also the Parsons Chairs - I had the bright idea of taking the fabric off of the legs and painting/staining, but the wood is very cheap, but I thought if I painted, they would not be too noticeable and I could then get a shorter slip cover and maybe embellish with fabric, design, etc.
Also, I want to paint the china cabinet, but not worked up the courage as yet, also the table legs - if I paint them - what color? You see my dilemma??? I was thinking of putting a mirror on each side of the china cabinet - maybe a sunburst style - plenty of those on Hometalk. For the Fall/Winter, I will put up new drapes, these are just light and airy for the summer months. Sorry the pictures are not better.
The photo at the bottom is what it used to look like with the old colors. Please keep in mind, I do not want to purchase new furniture - we maybe moving in a year or two (downsizing) and so I just want to update what I have not make new purchases. Thank you !!!

Re-painted Dining Room, Now I Need Ideas

Need Ideas on what to do now with my newly painted dining room.
Painted the chairs with Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue, but now they need a re-do. The Parsons Chairs, I would like to remove fabric on legs, but they are not good wood and so maybe just painting them will not be too noticeable, since I already did remove fabric from one leg and tossed it.
This is the old colors of the dining room.

I would love to help you design and give you easy DIY ideas that round look great!!! I would paint the hutch and change the rug unless you were open to changing the chair covers or table legs ... But that's up to you would help if I knew what your style was

I would remove the floor lamp in the corner as there is no chair by it and looks out of place. Also the clock needs to be moved to the living room. The blue is just not working with the wall colors. Perhaps painting the light lamp shades would help. The art work just is not complimenting the room either.

I agree with the comment above. What look are you trying to achieve? Ever consider painting the furniture? Perhaps White or pastel? Lose the rug. I would move the grandfather clock to the living room too

I am having a hard time figuring out which photo is the update. The top photo without the wall art and without the white ceiling fixture is the better room option IMO.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I agree it is confusing. The top (smaller) photo is the new paint color - BM Polar Frost, the one without the floor lamp, off white shade - that is an old photo and was a mistake to post. To be honest I do not have a "theme", I just want it to look okay enough for another year or two. I have never liked the dining room, nor any of the furniture we purchased, but feel I am stuck with it until we move. I do not want to put money out for new carpet, possibly would purchase four chairs, unless I can re-do either the wooden painted ones, or the parsons. Moving the clock to the living room is out of the question as there is no place to put it and it was an anniversary award from my husband's job, so it has to stay. I basically want something a little updated, that I can live with ..... I would love to change the color of the china cabinet, just a little unsure of it I could complete it and be happy with it ...... Thank you all and sorry I am so wishy washy!

Does the top of your china hutch come off? If so, might be something to think about....the tall clock and the tall hutch just do not look right to me. With it off, you would have a nice buffet and could put a mirror over it.

When I decorate a room, I like to have an inspiration piece to work from (such as a painting, glass bowl, curtains, paint, etc.) I don't see anything like that in this room. You have too many items that don't go together, such as the lamp in the corner, the centerpiece, the table runner, even the rug. The parsons chairs need to go or to get an facelift too, maybe pull off the fabric from the legs and paint them? Change out the artwork - too small. Too many patterns that conflict with each other.

Yes, the top photo is the most recent - no pictures on the wall, just white sheers for the summer on the windows - the lamp, runner, etc. is from an old photo, not sure why I posted that one. You are correct, there is nothing that pulls this room together and so I am at a complete loss what to do with it. I do not think my next home will even have a dining room !! I was thinking for simplicity, to put mirrors on either side of the china cabinet? I did also think about getting rid of the Parson's chairs. I think the largest obstacle is the china cabinet, I just need to get the courage up to paint it. I do appreciate the comments tho.

To Pat May, Omaha - yes, the top does come off of the china cabinet and I had thought about a mirror or painting with buffet lamps - I do not have anywhere to put the top of the cabinet right now and it weighs a ton to move to the basement, so for the time being am stuck with it. I may look for some pretty plates to put in the cabinet along with some crystal glasses and paint the shelves. Thank you again for your help.

I would move the clock to the entrance of the house where it can be appreciated, remove that corner lamp, change out the light fixture to something not so in-your-face and use a much shorter centerpiece. I do like it though and is much more charming than many I have seen.

Hi Marilyn, thanks for your comments. I cannot move the clock to the foyer as it has no wall space at all for anything like that and the living room has too much in it, so for the time being, the clock has to stay. The picture I posted was an old one for some reason - the corner lamp is gone and the black light fixture is now there. It has had many "looks", none that I have really been happy with, I am trying for something a little more simplistic and will keep looking for ideas and eventually it will be done. I do so appreciate all the comments though.
