We once stretched a few yards of burlap over a wall by tacking it to the molding around the ceiling and at at the floor. You could even dye or paint it beforehand.

You could obviously use any type of fabric.

  • Try peel and stick wallpaper- but be sure to read reviews thoroughly- not all will stay on your walls.

Use dollar store picture frames and add dehydrated flower petals or even faux flower petals in them; OR add words stenciled such as fits your choice and background "welcome to our home" in 3 or 2 lines and hang a small wreath under the welcome words that are current with the season, i.e. for fall a small dollar store wreath, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years etc to change it out. ALSO, put up large objects on the wall: if you play a guitar, hang it on the wall over the seating area, or if you like to play tennis, hang 2 rackets up, or if you like to surf or sail, hang a faux surf board or even a real one. It depends on your background and preference. If it is modern, go to the dollar store and see if they have modern decor for walls. Hang holiday items up too. Set articles in numbers of 3 on a table like 3 candles on dollar store candle sticks, or blocks of painted wood add 3 scented broad candles. Get some faux succulent plants or grow your own plants (philodendron, begonias, and geraniums are easy to grow) Plants make a home feel warm and cozy. Buy an inexpensive electric "fireplace" at Walmart or Montgomery ward catalog for under $100 and use it on cold evenings to set an atmosphere. They really do look like fire and add warmth to the room on cold evenings. They use the same amount of electricity as a toaster so they are not expensive to run. One friend of mine uses clear Christmas lights to decorate her wall in her living room year round. They add light and are pretty. Look at the "decoration" section under "explore projects" and maybe you can get more ideas.
