Making faux stained glass

Lisa Lowrey
by Lisa Lowrey
I'm a retired nurse and I love stained glass, but can't afford real thing. So it will be faux stained glass. I need to learn how to put the right colors together so it also fits the room . I want to hang them as wall decorations. Was going with ocean colors and bought several item colors that I like but didn't put colors together that looked dark. I have walnut dark walls. One wall is sheet rock painted beautiful spice and that's it. I like cool colors and hate dark rooms. I want the windows opened and lighting needs to be right in the evenings. I'm working on that.
Thanks,
Lisa

Unicorn Spit paint makes an awesome medium for doing stained glass! Somewhere in my saved boards is a post that uses just that.

You could go to Plaid.com,they have awesome kits, patterns and "Gallery" glass paints that turn clear when dried. I've been using them for 11 years. Great company. They also have liquid lead.

Michael's carries glass paint that can either be baked or dried for a few weeks and I use it all the time. I have also picked some up at Tuesday Morning. I pick it up when it's on sale and get the colors that I want. I do a lot of ocean/sea/lighthouse type projects. To figure out the colors that go together, go to Lowe's and pick up the free paint chips. This will give you an idea before you shop for the paint. You can get picture frames with the glass and add hangers/chain to hang them.

It will not show up well hanging on a dark wall, nor really on any wall. To really show it off, it needs light coming through it. Deco art also has a line of glass stains. Remember, in glass stains, they dry an entirely different color than it shows in the bottle
