and something the above article didn't really address --- light cool colors with tone on tone accent colors -- keeping it all in the same color range ... no 'complementary' colors, but all 'shades' of the same color -- from mid rane dark to the very lightest ( but not the most intense ) --- like if you use a 'Gray' tone, be very careful of your use of 'Black' -- I'd not go full 'Black' but a couple of grades up from that -- would still be an 'accent' but in the same range of shades.
Use light colors - light paint color, light furniture colors, light airy curtains, you could hang a big mirror - that makes space look bigger, and clearing out extra clutter could help too.
Walls, Floor and Curtains the same colour. Make the Bed the feature by either a coloured Bedspread or plain coloured bedding like walls etc. but Pops of colour with Cushions or accessories etc.
