Sock snowman

I have a sock snowman that someone did. I would like to redo. the sock is completely white, with the top sewed shut but flopping over. I would like to make that a different color to look like a stocking cap. How would I dye the top part without taking it apart. Is there a way? Any ideas?

Hi Rhonda, I've never done this but thinking about it, here's what comes up for me. If you try to use dye, it might work, but my thought is that you will have no control of how far down the sock it will go. So my thought is what if you tried either using fabric paint or even a marker? I think you'd have better control over where the color goes, plus you could even give it stripes. Another idea is to glue a piece of fabric, felt or something furry where the colors meet to make it look like part of his hat A pom-pom at the end would be cute too. I know you didn't mention fixing it, but I don't think it would be hard to take off a few stitches, put in some more filling, then stitch it back up. If stitching isn't your thing, you most likely could also use a fabric type glue to hold it closed. I hope this helps you. Wishing you the best.

Rhonda, this is a great place to learn about crafting. You'll find more and more projects that you'd like to do. When you fix your sock snowman, take some pictures to show what you did and use the "Post Project" link, at the top on the right, to share it with the rest of us. Hometalk likes at least 4 pictures and 200 words, but that's not hard. Posting a project is easy because the system walks you through it. Try to have a group picture of your supplies to start off. If you're not sure what you'll use, you could even take that after you're done. Sharing projects is what Hometalk is all about. Good luck!

I think they have patterns on the craft web pages.. I'd buy the sox with the red stripes at the top, sew it shut and fold it down

I have made these. What I would do is undo the top and readjust the rice filling to be the firmness you like and tie a cord around the top where the neck is and do the same thing for the head. Tie the top of the head tightly with a cord. Cut of the excess and make a hat from another sock of whatever color you like. Sew or glue in place. I have found that the tighter the rice is held, the better it stands without flopping over.
