Hi Rhonda, I've never done this but thinking about it, here's what comes up for me. If you try to use dye, it might work, but my thought is that you will have no control of how far down the sock it will go. So my thought is what if you tried either using fabric paint or even a marker? I think you'd have better control over where the color goes, plus you could even give it stripes. Another idea is to glue a piece of fabric, felt or something furry where the colors meet to make it look like part of his hat A pom-pom at the end would be cute too. I know you didn't mention fixing it, but I don't think it would be hard to take off a few stitches, put in some more filling, then stitch it back up. If stitching isn't your thing, you most likely could also use a fabric type glue to hold it closed. I hope this helps you. Wishing you the best.
pai ting with fabric paint will be your only option, dyes run
I think they have patterns on the craft web pages.. I'd buy the sox with the red stripes at the top, sew it shut and fold it down
I have made these. What I would do is undo the top and readjust the rice filling to be the firmness you like and tie a cord around the top where the neck is and do the same thing for the head. Tie the top of the head tightly with a cord. Cut of the excess and make a hat from another sock of whatever color you like. Sew or glue in place. I have found that the tighter the rice is held, the better it stands without flopping over.
Add a rim to hat using a colour and make a pompom for the very top...
I would get a childs sock in the cap color you desire at the Dollar Tree.
