What can I do to make our track light cans less ugly?

The track light cans, or heads, in our "temporary" housing are very dated and ugly. Right now they are white, the same color as the ceilings and tracks. Any suggestions to update or freshen the look without actually changing the heads? I'm leaning towards washi tape, but we need other ideas.

You could spray paint them for an updated effect.

You can spray paint them in a soft (not shiny) spray paint. I would go with aluminum. You can also spray paint a series of wide stripes around the heads leaving some of the white. Stripes of muted washi tape would look good. You want to bring attention to them but not a focal point. You don't want them to slap you in the face when entering the room.

Yeah, I think Spray painting them a matte metallic color would update them nicely.

One thing that would bring them up to date is to remove the bulb, then paint the inside of the can black or navy or other very dark color. Then the ring that sits on the ceiling can be painted a brushed nickel or brushed gold. Then reinsert the bulb. Voila! New looking light fixtures! You could also cut some chicken wire or hardware cloth into a circle the size of the hole in the drywall and spray paint gold and tuck it up above the ring.
