Want to save light covers- How can I use paint to make them abstract?

How can I use paint to make these look abstract ?

    This lady used Modern Masters metallic paints to paint hers, if you look at the picture on pinterest here (link below), you can see her final product, click to go to her blog page. The images don't show up on her page for some reason, but she guides you through what she did:

      If you click on the link it takes you to the image of what she did using those paints. All she did was paint, she didn't seal or anything. She says in the article that she did do several coats of paint using the Modern Masters metallic paints. Sorry the link on her blog is not good:(

    I use whatever paint I have on hand. Clean them up first and roughen the surface slightly (I use a sponge sander) so that the paint sticks. Or you could start with a base coat of a spray paint meant for plastic (I'd still clean them up first). Here's another idea: modpodge and any kind of paper or fabric that has a design you like. Clear sealer or more modpodge over it and you're good to go.

    I would use a glass etching product and etch them with a modern pattern, like bold stripes.
