My son is getting married in the Bahamas in March. Since they live out west and we live in the east, planning a wedding shower/stags etc were out of the question. I would like to make some small gift to celebrate their special day but it has to be small enough to take in my luggage or carry on. I do some crafts eg paint light-bulbs, felt crafts etc so the actual crafting isnt a problem, just need some beach theme wedding ideas. Anyone ??? Thanks

Clear glass/plastic Christmas decorations might still be available where you live, that or other glass type items. Fill them with some white sand, and shells, then seal them closed so nothing leaks out. Don't fill them all the way, cause you want the sand to move around with the shells in them. Just a third of the way is fine. You can even turn them upside down on the tables as decorations so no one can see the tops from where they hang. Drape a sand or blue fine tulle on the table, place the decorations on top along with maybe some pieces of beach wood or flowers that grow along the coast. That or maybe paint a beach scene on them with lighthouses. The best part is that the clear decorations can be used on their Christmas tree for long after.

you could also take their wedding invitation and frame it in a shadow box with perhaps some sand, shells, starfish, etc and could pack that in your suitcase as it would be nice and flat and would be a nice keepsake............

The funny thing is, their wedding invitation was a bottle with sand and shells, with the invitation itself rolled up inside with raffia attached and out the top of the bottle that was then plugged with a cork. Very original and beautiful..has their name on it and date of wedding.

"Message in a bottle" Use a unique bottle preferably vintage, Write them a letter from your heart (Your wishes, dreams for them etc..) to open now or on an anniversary of your choice. Tie on some raffia or seaweed. Make a beach. A tray about 2 inches deep and a good bit larger than your bottle, fill with beach sand, lay in the bottle, some shells maybe even some sea glass or other treasures. It can be a center piece for them later if they want. You can pack everything except the sand and you can get that in the Bahamas.

You could also get small beach shovels and put them in a clear plastic bag with some colorfully wrapped candies. Then add a decorative beach inspired ribbon.

My daughter just got married in British Columbia, we're live in Georgia. It was challenging to say the least. One of the neatest gift she received was a piece of string that had been made by a great, great grandfather. The Giver had tied a knot for each year the Great Greats were married, the Greats, the Grands, the parents and then one for the new couple's first year. They were instructed to tie a new knot each year on their anniversary. Don't know if you can make string, but even purchased would be lovely and sentimental and very easy to fit in a suitcase!

If you do cross stitch there is a wonderful seashell wreath that can be used year round for sale at I believe Herrschner's ( they sell many different crafting items). Made in your own hand this would be a very nice gift. A few shells as pictured in the wreath to compliment sitting on a nearby shelf in a decorative container would look great.The possibilities are endless.

Thanks to all of you, I am running a few ideas through this brain of mine. Since I do toll painting on bottles, bulbs, pavers and various other things....I am going to try and design a painting for a bottle or if I can find them, some larger shells and paint those with the wedding/date/names etc. I love the string idea too! Maybe could incorporate some shells into the rope as well. The sand, baubles etc would easily fit in a suitcase and it could be finished when I get there. As for making it hard for parents lol.....I live in Ontario Canada and the kids live out west in Alberta. My son is military so he can't always get time off when he wants so March it was. Edmonton, Alberta in winter can get to -40 or worse so they figured since everyone would have to fly someplace, that flying to a warm island would be a lot nicer and get us all out of the cold! There are about 32 people going so it should be a lot of fun. Thanks ladies for the great ideas.

We also did a special table for the new couple. My mother in law embroidered the Table cloth & napkins, my sister in law crocheted a table runner, I made napkin rings and place mats. The grooms parents provided a love seat for the new couple to sit. It was lovely and they had keepsakes to start their new life with. I don't think the love seat would work for y'all but the other stuff might.

I am not sure if you found your prefect present yet, but I just saw something while writing my blog and thought of you. It would have to be done after the wedding. Get a copy of their marriage certificate and Mod Podge it onto their initial. My blog has lots of other awesome letter ideas this month if you want to check it out….Good Luck!
