An "old" vintage door side ways painted or distressed to ur liking. If u like metal, go thrift shopping for vintage garden gates. A bookcase. Cinder blocks supporting a board to have a shelf to display things.

Hang a quilt or tapestry on the wall.
Making a headboard is only half of the project. Figuring out how to mount it ( especially so it doesn't creak) on to the existing bed frame is often a bigger dilemma. It's sort of a short cut route but for this reason, 'headboards' are often attached to the wall instead.
