Do put in to much clutter. That makes almost any decor look cheap. A few well placed pieces look better than a lot of stuff. Excellent video here:

Pinterest allows you to see what others have done and you can find a look that suits your style. I'd personally go for the Batman theme, but that's me. Your taste may vary.

Plants and colorful flowers, candles, and mirrors can glam your place up in a hurry. Also, a nice colorful throw draped casually over the sofa or chair can add a pop of color fairly inexpensively. Lighting is also important!
