I love the idea of either giving it a painted outline ( chlkapaint or saltwash) or building a frame. Here's even more inspiration from fellow hometalkers to peruse- http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=bathroom%20mirror

I live in an apartment, so I don't want to damage anything. My mirror is above the counter, much more than I need (nor want to clean, or look at myself, ha! ha!), I bought the surface cling, that only needs water! (Squeegee helps) I then put small strips on either side of the mirror( I used the bamboo pattern ) also put full on the glass shower doors. Looks frosted, my friends think it's very spa like . Bought mine at JoAnn Fabrics, always coupons on line.

You could etch a border pattern. Use clear Mactac to make a stencil, stick on mirror and apply etch paste as per instructions. Peel off Mactac and wash as directed.

You could have limitless patterns. Lace, sea weed, trees, vines, birds, insects, flowers, sea horses, etc.

Etching is a beautiful decorating idea but I suggest you practice first. I did my first etching on glass ornaments, then tackled my bathroom mirror. You don't get to correct mistakes very much after something has been etched.

You can add molding to edge of the mirror to frame it. Makes it look finished.

I carefully measured the plain mirror attached to the wall in my powder room, then had a custom frame made for it. A small local art store did a great job, especially when advising me to add a small molding piece along the inside of the frame (it reduced reflection of the frame from the mirror). I attached it to the wall with velcro. It looks great!
