You need to find the studs for sure. They are 18" apart.
my sons did this for me...have to go into the studs. they used a few large nails fairly close together. mirror is up for years with issues. in the bathroom, they put large screws into the wall for stability.
Here is a heavy duty hanger that is rated to hold up to 200 pounds in sheetrock. If that type of hanger doesn't work for you, you may need to find the studs. Studs are 16" apart. I'd recommend investing in a stud finder like this one.
