Monkey hooks. They can be purchased at big box home improvement stores or on Amazon. There are 2 different sized according to the weight. I have used 2 of the larger hooks for heavy wall hangings. Hope this helps
Try your best to find studs in the wall to hang the pictures. Otherwise, I would suggest anchor screws.
Hi Kim. The best thing to do is use a stud finder so you can get the nail into the stud.
My husband recently found a wonderful wall hung clock at our town swap shop. It weighs 40 lbs and because the only place we had to hang it had no studs (this house is112 years old and studs were not placed in regular distances from each other) He got a flat metal plate thing from Home depot and as it could be fastened in several places the chance of hitting a piece of lath were increased. To test the strength of this he hung a wood carrier filled with weights in it from the improvised hanger. That held so he then hung the clock. In newer houses with plaster board walls and regular stud placement, there should be no problem and we have had no problem hanging large pictures in our house. (see example)
For really heavy pieces, I recommend using a wall cleat set. You can buy them in any home improvement store and they come in varying lengths. Choose the longest length that will still be concealed behind your piece. It will evenly distribute the weight of your wall decor for a secure mount.
A toggle bolt appropriate for the weight of the picture.
