I think it is a matter of personal taste on how many rubber band you use. How busy do you want the shirt to look? The more bands, the more pattern. As for colors, that is also a matter of taste. I always take inspiration from nature, there are no color clashes in gardens or forests, Lots of things go together!

The rubber bands change sorbtion of dye. It's up to you...want lots of spiral blending? Use more. What colors do you like? Remember the color wheel...blue + green make yellow, red + green make brown...
