Will peel and stick tile or contact paper stay on chip board ?

my bath room and laundry room has chip board on it walls and ceiling . it the cheaper type that is not sealed so pieces of wood fall off some times.i would love to cover this up or part of it any way . i am elderly and will need help from my family. so i need something easy .

  • My personal opinion is the contact paper might stay on longer because it is lighter weight but the fact that the walls are in high moisture areas might make both products lose their stick eventually. Good luck.

    You could try a paint primer made for mold and mildew resistance first and apply whatever covering after. Primer is the key. For the exposed "wood" I might choose an aerosol primer, like Kilz, in several light coats. The brush on primer will be absorbed into it and takes longer to dry, causing more swelling of the substrate.

    Yes, I agree on sealing your walls with something first so chunks don't separate; you need a good surface to stick them to. But yes, you should be able to put them up over chipboard. If you're concerned, maybe use a wallpaper paste to strengthen the sticky factor.
