Reclaimed Wood Tray

Hi Hometalk Friends! A few weeks ago I scored some old fence pickets from a house that was being flipped. That's considered reclaimed wood, right? :) I paired them with a thrift store frame to create a beautiful new tray:
Here's how the frame started out:
I knew the details on it would show up beautifully with a little paint. It had been passed up several times as it was on it's third markdown to $1.98. It must have been waiting for me to show up.

I originally painted the frame in DIY chalk paint using Cottage White by Behr. I also used my table saw to cut the pickets to fit.
I painted the topside of the pickets in the Cottage White also then rubbed the paint right back off to create a washed look.

Then I used small nails at an angle to attach the pickets to the frame.
You can see the washed look of the pickets here:
You'll also notice that I ended up adding a coat of Duck Egg Blue over the fist color. A little sanding really brought out the pretty details in the frame. I sealed it all with a coat of clear soft wax.
These handles got the same paint treatment. They came off of an old thrift store find...
I love how it turned out!
For the month of March, I'm sharing a thrifty makeover every day! Come see this and all the fun makeovers at the link below!
