Last year we lost both our beautiful rottweiler pups within 13 days of each other. Lulu was 12 1/2 and Zander was 10 1/2. They were both having some medical issues but we had no inkling that we would have to say goodbye to both of them so close together.
We had these two beautiful artist sketches of Lulu and Zander and I never knew exactly what to do with them. Lulu is the top one and Zander is on the bottom. I found this gorgeous frame at an estate sale and finally put the two together for an idea. Isn't that detail amazing? The green color not so much...lol.
First I cleaned the frame well using denatured alcohol.
Looking at my pretty pups I needed the perfect brown. I mixed up Unicorn spit Squirrel with some brown/copper glitter. Can never have enough sparkle in anything right?
I painted my mixture all over the canvas using a chip brush.
Next I misted a paper towel with water and wiped the brown off the raised gold detail.
I did a light spray of Rustoleum oil based sealer in gloss finish to seal the unicorn spit. You must seal unicorn spit and only with an oil based sealer.
I wanted a gold mat and JoAnn Fabric did not have anything big enough in that color - only yellow. Well, necessity being the mother of invention I thought - "I can spit that with gold!"
I grabbed some of the new sparkling spit in Golden Gosling. Gorgeous deep gold - exactly what I needed.
I was a little apprehensive painting on paper but it turned beautiful! I decided to do horizontal strokes for a change - I loved it!
Here is a sneak peek of the colors together - The gold and the brown so perfectly compliments their sketches.
I did a light seal with Rustoleum sealer in satin. Even though the mat and sketches will be behind glass I didn't want the gold to fade. Rustoleum has UV protection so this was my best choice. The satin finish was perfect.
I added some sparkly felt fabric to the back and glued that down with some crafters glue. I weighted it down overnight with some boards and trimmed off the excess once it was good and attached.
Here is it all done!
And here it is hanging up. Added for cuteness is our new puppy Ava who is a year old. Her mentors will be looking down on her and hopefully sending her advice on how to be as good as they were. Miss you everyday LuluBelle and Zander!
