Repurposed Vintage Plate Holder

This month the DIY Project Bloggers are using chalkboard paint! I needed something to hold my cutting boards and would you believe I made a 2-in-1 kitchen gadget?!?! Scored!
I found this vintage wooden plate holder at a thrift shop. What a great cutting board holder it would make if I modified it! It needed support to keep it from rolling side to side on the counter... and that's where my chalkboard comes in.
So I cut off two dowels on the plate holder to make it open up for space.
Then made a pig chalkboard from scrap wood.
After painting and distressing it to make it look old, I attached it to the plate holder.

That made it stable to hold all of my cutting boards.
With the chalkboard attached... friendly reminders are written on it.
Because some things are too important to forget!
The original drilled hanging holes on the holder are left as they were, for wall hanging. But, the use of countertop is feasible now because the wood of the chalkboard keeps it in place.
I don't know why I never thought of this before. I love how all of the boards stay upright without sliding on the countertop.

Is there a pattern for the pig? I love him and would like to copy him.
