Restyle Your Books Into Beautiful Decor

DIY to turn your hardback books into vintage style decor. It's a simple project with gorgeous results!
Turn old books into wonderful decor.
Got books? You can do this with hot glue, Mod Podge, various papers (I used printed napkins and tissue) and paint.
Detail of hot glue "stitching."
Old books have stitched spines. Add fake ones with hot glue. Google photos of antique books for more spine stitching for more ideas.
Dollar Store gold damask tissue paper.
Tear your paper into irregular shapes and crumple tightly. Smooth the paper out. Spread white glue on book cover as it lays flat. Use a light touch and a paint brush dipped in glue to smooth it out. The wrinkles give your book a true vintage look.
I added a scrapbook label painted gold then lightly burnished all the edges with gold paint and a very light brushing of burnt umber. This really brings out all the great textures!
Stack of restyled books in gold damask.
Here's a pic of three gold damask books in a stack for a wedding. I just LOVE the way they came oujt!
Here is a stack done in turquoise and black.
You can do them in any color combo. I am always on the lookout for printed napkins and tissue paper.
Love the skeleton key napkins and scripty tissue I found.
My bookshelves are so interesting now!
This stack of red books are crackle painted. I'll be posting that DIY next!
