Want a cheap but elegant way to dress up your dining room, mantle, or entryway? Get to your nearest thrift store and dig out those candlesticks of all sizes and shapes and colors. With a little spray paint, you will have the Midas touch.

I had two purposes for buying all these candlesticks. First, my niece was getting married and she wanted lots of candlelight and gold. Second, I had a bunch of battery LED candles from Costco that I wanted a fancy way to display. I scored at my local thrift store (Deseret Industries) and found this haul of candlesticks all for a $1.50 or less each. I didn't care what they looked like because eclectic was what I was going for and the color was going to be changed anyway.

I got out my favorite gold spray paint, Rustoleum Metallic Gold.

When you spray paint, do it is in a well ventilated space (garage with door or window open or outside if the weather is warm). Lucky for me it was a nice 60 degree day in December in Idaho so I did mine outside.

When you spray with spray paint, it is best to do light coats and layer to avoid drips. Lightly spray the area from about 10" away and move the paint can around the object lightly covering and let it dry before repeating.

I did use these for the wedding and it turned out beautiful! After the wedding I put them up on my mantle for display.

It adds a little more elegance in my family room.

I also use them for the centerpiece on my dining table. Easy, elegant, and frugal - it is the best DIY!

About 50 years ago my brother was getting married. Stumbled upon $0.10 bud vases. Bought 25. I filled with a single stem rose, and some greenery and reception table decor (simple times back then). Stored a couple of years but time to let go. Spray painted, half candle stick holders, half bud vases. Sold to bride on equally tight budget for $5 each. She was thrilled and so was I. Sister in law kept one of each, she loved them. Still has them
